With an intent to upgrade the infrastructural facilities, the Tamil Nadu government has recently announced the establishment of two corporations viz. Hosur in Krishnagiri district and Nagercoil in Kanyakumari, which were municipalities erstwhile. The State has already issued the bill regarding the same. However, these will be taken up for discussion on the last day of the budget session.
The decision to upgrade the municipalities to a corporation has been taken keeping in mind the augmenting population along with an increase in the average annual income, and the level of civic facilities required to enhance the living standard of the masses.
In order to give effect to the announcement, the government has decided to adopt provisions of Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Act, 1981, shares S P Velumani, Municipal Administration Minister. Necessary changes are likely to be made in the said provisions.
As revealed, post the completion of the said process, the new corporations will be provided with an elected mayor, an elected council, a standing committee, wards committee, and a commissioner to look after the entire responsibilities.
