Thiruvananthapuram civic body identifies 170 illegal constructions

In a recent survey conducted, the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation has identified 170 unauthorised constructions in the city. The inspection was carried out as not a single unauthorised building was regularized within corporation limits under the regularisation scheme. The town planning wing was directed to take an audit to identify all unauthorised constructions in the city. All unauthorized constructions were found under five zonal offices - Vizhinjam, Fort, Nemom, Vattiyoorkavu and Thiruvallom. Data from six remaining zonal offices will be compiled soon. As of now, 29 States and Union Territories (UTs) have notified the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA). The Tamil Nadu government had notified rules along with its RERA website for online registration of ongoing projects in the State. The State government has not appointed a permanent regulator yet. The Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department has been appointed as an interim regulator. To reduce the travel time between the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Dahisar, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will construct a signal-free corridor on the Western Express Highway (WEH). The planned corridor is more likely to cut the travel time by 30 minutes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently inaugurated an inland waterways project, National Waterway-1 at Varanasi. This recently unveiled multi-modal waterways terminal is part of the Jal Marg Vikas Project, which is aimed at developing the stretch of the river between Varanasi and Haldia for navigation of large vessels. Ministry revises environmental clearance norms for housing projects

The Central Government has announced that residential projects up to 1.5 lakh sqm built-up area will not be mandated to receive environmental clearance from the concerned authorities. The move is anticipated to speed up the construction pace of all residential projects across the country. The Environment and Forests Ministry has issued the notification of the same.
