The Punjab government had notified the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) rules in June 2017. The Act aims to infuse transparency and accountability in the sector by clarifying the code of conduct for both buyers and developers.
The State government had appointed Navreet Singh Kang as the chairman for the regulatory authority for five years or until he attains the age of retirement, whichever is earlier.
It should be noted that Punjab RERA, which requires all brokers, promoters, and developers to register themselves with the regulatory authority, mentions a registration fee of Rs 5,000 for an individual real estate agent and Rs 25,000 for other entities.
Recently, the regulatory authority has decided to allow developers to register with the PunjabRERA who failed to register themselves within the stipulated time. The authority had set December 31, 2017 as registration deadline. The decision was made considering a large of applications still being received by RERA for registration.
