The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), the executing agency for Metro projects in Kolkata, has invited the bids for laying tracks on the four upcoming metro corridors in the city. The proposed Metro projects include Joka-Majerhat corridor, Noapara-Dakshineswar corridor, New Garia-airport corridor, and Noapara airport corridor. Officials have shared that the manufacturers will supply a total of 11,000 metric tonnes of tracks in the next 18 months. Kolkata civic body announces 10pc tax rebate for senior citizens

The West Bengal government has proposed a 10 percent rebate on property tax for senior citizens, aged 60 years or above. The exemption will be granted to all the property owners with properties under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). Earlier, people aged 65 years and above were eligible for the tax rebate. The KMC will implement the rebate scheme from the next financial year, 2019-20. KMC to extend relief to taxpayers burdened by UAA

The Kolkata civic body has formed a hardship removal committee for the property taxpayers who may be burdened by the increased tax in the new Unit Area Assessment (UAA) system. Applicants will be exempted from paying the increased tax if the civic authorities deem it relevant. A taxpayer seeking an exemption is required to cite reasons for their inability to pay the tax calculated based on the UAA.  The civic authority has prepared a capping system to provide relief to the segment of property taxpayers whose tax rates hiked abnormally. There will be no increase in the tax beyond 20 percent of the existing tax rate. Some taxpayers may nevertheless find it difficult to accept the new tax rates; their cases will be then…
