The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will only accept online applications for building plan approvals from April 1, 2021. The change has already been rolled out for central and south-east Kolkata from February 1 and will be extended to other parts of the city by March-end.

To ensure ease of doing business, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has made the layout approval system online and would only accept the e-applications from April 1, 2021. The system has already been in place in borough VI and VII (central and south-east Kolkata) from February 1 and will cover the rest of the city by March 31, 2021.

According to a KMC official, the online system aims at offering single-window solutions. It would ensure hassle-free procurement of No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various government authorities within 10 days and a layout sanction within 30 days.

Earlier, a developer building a project of over 50 ft height and built-up area exceeding 550 sq m had to obtain separate clearances from various departments including fire services and environment and land, among others before applying to KMC’s building department.
