The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has decided to finalise the alignment plan of a proposed flyover from Chingrighata to New town.

The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) will lock the alignment plan of the proposed flyover connecting Chingrighata with New Town in a couple of weeks. The authority has roped in IIT, Kharagpur to prepare an analysis report to assess the traffic scenario of Chingrighata crossing on EM Bypass and to come up with the most feasible layout.

Earlier, it was proposed that the flyover would be constructed over the wetland, but the plan was later scrapped, and the authorities came up with a few alternative routes. Among the other alternatives, another flyover had been proposed from Captain Bheri on EM Bypass, which would take a right from Chingrighata to move over Salt Lake Bypass, parallel to the metro rail alignment, before entering Sector 5 from Nicco Park.

According to the senior officials of the KMDA, the flyover will move past a few water bodies, and it will be ensured that no wetland is affected. Once the alignment is finalised, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed flyover will be prepared, and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will also be carried out.
