The Gujarat government has announced the launch of Mukhyamantri Audyogik Shramyogi Ane Industrial Housing Awas (MASIHA) scheme to meet the housing needs of labourers across the State.
The Gujarat government is planning to launch a housing scheme soon to meet the residential needs of the labourers near the factories. The announcement has been made in the wake of the COVID-19-led migration that has led to crippling of production at the industrial sites. The scheme will be called Mukhyamantri Audyogik Shramyogi Ane Industrial Housing Awas (MASIHA).
Under the said scheme, housing options will be constructed for the labourers at concessional rate. The project will be implemented on public-private partnership (PPP) basis. The State has also announced a provision of about Rs 1,500 crore for labour and employment department in its Budget 2021-22.
In 2020, the State had also launched the affordable rental housing policy for migrants to ensure that the poor and middle-class workers have access to affordable houses on rent. The government also provided the developers with an additional 50 percent Floor Space Index (FSI) and other benefits to facilitate construction of such houses. All these moves together are likely to resolve the poor housing conditions for labourers across the State.
