The Gujarat government has allotted over Rs 2,000 crore for the planned bullet and metro rail projects in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Gandhinagar.

The Gujarat government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 2,070 crore for the bullet and metro train projects in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Gandhinagar. The allocation includes Rs 1,500 crore for Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train, for which the contract has already been awarded. To apprise, both the bullet and metro train projects are being funded by the Central and State governments.

As informed by the officials, a sum of Rs 570 crore has been allocated for Surat Metro, besides Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro work has already began and is likely to be completed by 2024. As far as the bullet train project is concerned, the work for the construction of pillars has begun and the work for the ground preparation of Sabarmati Depot is scheduled to begin this year.

Other than these two projects, the State government has also announce Metro Lite and Metro Neo projects for Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, and Jamnagar. The project will be implemented on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis and funded by the Central Government. Rs 50 crore has been allotted for the feasibility study needed for project sanction.
