With workplace anxiety and a sedentary lifestyle taking a toll on people’s health, yoga spaces have emerged as the most preferred amenity in residential complexes today followed by swimming pools, according to a Twitter poll conducted by 99acres.com.
After several initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to generate Yoga awareness among the citizens of the country, a large portion of the population across the nation has awakened to the benefits of yoga.
According to National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), Yoga is becoming a popular practice amongst working populace between the age group of 25 and 35 years of age. Recent studies in people with chronic back pain suggest that a carefully adapted set of poses may help reduce pain and improve function (the ability to walk and move). Reports also revealed that practicing yoga might have other health benefits such as reducing heart rate and blood pressure, and may also help relieve anxiety and depression. On the contrary, research also suggests that yoga is not helpful for asthma, and studies looking at yoga and arthritis have revealed mixed results.
This International Yoga Day, 99acres.com conducted a twitter poll to analyse the popularity of Yoga and the preference of residents in residential complexes these days.
More than 74 percent of the respondents voted outdoors as the more suitable location for practicing Yoga. Shashank Gupta, Yoga & Naturotherapist, Delhi NCR avers, “Parks are the most preferred place for practicing Yoga. However, most of the parks in residential complexes are filthy and have less green cover which makes them unsuitable for practicing it. Being a visitor to more than 100 of societies in Delhi NCR, none of the societies have parks which are Yoga friendly.”
Despite an inclination and willingness to pay among residents, yoga is still neglected by the builder community at the time of constructing the residential complex. Experts suggest that proper ventilation is required where Yoga is conducted. Rooms with wall size windows, balcony and natural view are best suited.
While swimming pool bagged maximum votes, Yoga-friendly spaces have also garnered enough interest from the respondents owing to a plethora of health benefits associated to it. All in all, the overall poll revealed the growing popularity of yoga among people nowadays. Experts reiterate that developers and builders should mull over creating Yoga spaces as an integral part of their residential developments.
