Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is more likely to lay the foundation stone for the Jewar Noida International Airport (JNIA) by February-end 2019. The new airport will be a second airport facility after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for Delhi NCR region.
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government had allocated Rs 800 crore for the international airport in Jewar along the 165 km Yamuna Expressway. The allocated sum will be utilised for rehabilitation and settlement of farmer families. The State government has already released Rs 2,850 crore for land acquisition purposes. The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) will soon invite bids to execute the project.
In the first phase of the Jewar airport, the State government would acquire land in Dayanatpur, Ranhera, Banwaribans, Kishorpur, Rohi, Parohi, and Kureb villages.
The Aviation Ministry had approved the development of the airport in June 2015, and in-principle approval was given in June 2017. The airport is expected to be developed by 2022.
