To ensure first and last mile connectivity at metro stations, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) official held a meeting with the representatives of the IT companies in the city. The meeting was announced immediately after the commencement of the Blue Line Phase III of the Hyderabad Metro from Ameerpet to HITEC City.
Addressing the benefits of metro travel, NVS Reddy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL), advised the representatives of the IT companies to convert their long-distance feeder buses and other pick-up services into short shuttle services between the metro stations. For instance, feeder services can be provided for places beyond LB Nagar, Uppal and Miyapur and between the metro stations of HITEC City and Durgamcheruvu to lead to the IT campuses or residential micro-markets within a range of about 4 km or 5 km. The conversion would not only ensure reduced travel time and stress-free rides but would also affirm environmental benefits such as reduction in pollution levels and decreased vehicular congestion on roads.
Talking about the parking facilities, Reddy stressed that HMRL would facilitate the necessary permissions and would provide the required parking space for the feeder services at the metro stations. Some of the companies like KonyLabs and Novartis have agreed to start the short distance feeder services from HITEC City and Durgamcheruvu stations to their campuses in a few days. The other companies have also appreciated the suggestion and stated that they would follow suit at an early date.
