Buying a home under PMAY


Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is one of the most ambitious housing schemes launched by the Government of India in 2015. The scheme aims at developing four crore pucca homes in rural areas and two crore in urban areas, with the final intention of realising ‘Housing for All’ by 2022.


The scheme specifically targets three income groups – Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Lower Income Groups (LIG) and Middle Income Groups (MIG) under PMAY (Urban). Till date, about 88 lakh housing units have been sanctioned under the scheme. Of all, around 15 lakh have been constructed so far, nearly 40 lakh are under-construction and the rest are still in the planning phase (Data as in September 2019).
